About Vellore

Vellore (Tamil: pronounced[velur]( listen)is a tier-2 City and municipal corporation in the vellore district Indian state of Tamil Nadu. In the August of 2008, it was made a municipal corporation. Eventhough it is upgraded as 9th city corporation in 2008,due to its fast growth,It is the 6th largest city in tamilnadu in terms of population and area,after chennai,coimbatore,madurai,trichi and salem. It is considered one of the oldest cities in South India and lies on the banks of the Palar river on the site of Vellore Fort. The city lies between Chennai (145km) and Bangalore (215km) and the Temple towns of Thiruvannamalai and Tirupati.
