About Shahganj

Shahganj is a city and a municipal board in Jaunpur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Chairman is O. P. Jaiswal. After Jaunpur, Shahganj has some of the biggest grain, grocery and general both wholesale and retail markets in the North-Eastern UP. Being well connected via Railways and Roadwayd, it plays a major part in the local economy. The nearby villages and towns are prosperous relative to many prominent districts of the state. It is also home to the only state owned sugar cane factory of the region. Shahganj is famous for its ramlila's and durga puja festivities and is home to the Shah Baba whose tomb is visited by many pilgrims. As of 2001 India census, Shahganj had a population of 24,595. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Shahganj has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 57%.
