Murarai I (community development block) (Bengali: I ) is an administrative division in Rampurhat subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Murarai police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Murarai. Chatra, a constituent panchayat of Murarai I block, is located at 242226N 875104E / 24.3739N 87.8512E / 24.3739; 87.8512. Murarai I community development block has an area of 167.00 km. Gram panchayats of Murarai I block/panchayat samiti are: Chatra, Dumurgram, Gorsha, Mohurapur, Murarai, Palsa and Rajgram. As per 2001 census, Murarai I block had a total population of 154,282, out of which 79,193 were males and 75,087 were females. Murarai I block registered a population growth of 25.90 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Birbhum district was 17.88 per cent.Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.
