Gohana (Hindi: ) is a town and a municipal committee in Sonipat district in the Indian state of Haryana. Gohana is located at 2908N 7642E / 29.13N 76.7E / 29.13; 76.7. It has an average elevation of 225metres (738feet). Gohana town is situated in Sonipat district of Haryana. It is a Tehsil town of more than 300,000 population now in year 2011, has its own municipality and a constituency for Haryana Vidhan Sabha.It is located on Rohtak-Panipat state highway and has a railway station on Rohtak-Panipat railway line. From the district, its distance is 40 Km. Earlier, it was part of Rohtak district. In ancient times, Gohana was known as Gavambhavana and was considered a sacred place. Prithviraj Chauhan had constructed a fort here. After defeating Prithviraj in 1192, Muhammad Ghori destroyed the fort. Later, Gohana also became a settlement of Taga Brahmins.
