Tirumangalam is a city and municipality in the Madurai District of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The area of the municipality is 10.70km, and it contains 27 wards. The main functions of the municipality are to provide basic amenities and implement development. The population of the town increased 50% between 1991 and 2001. The floating population of the town exceeds the permanent population. The town area is being developed continually. Many people from southern Tamil Nadu pass through the town. The Temple City Madurai, near Tirumangalam, is a cause of the town's development. The latitude and longitude of this town is 991 N and 7798E respectively and the mean sea level (MSL) is 164.150m. The town is situated on the banks of river Gundar, a distributary of river Vaigai. The average maximum and minimum temperatures are of 39C and 27 C.
