Angamaly (Malayalam: , Akamli) is a satellite town of the city of Kochi, situated 34 kilometres (21mi) north of the city center and a municipality in Ernakulam district, Kerala, India. It is one of the entry points or gateways to Ernakulam district from northern Kerala. The Main Central road terminates in Angamaly where it also intersects the National Highway 47. As of 2001 India census, Angamaly had a population of 33,424. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Angamaly has an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 50% of the males and 50% of females literate. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. Angamaly is distinguished by a number of churches of different rites and was the leading ecclesiastical centre in early modern times (later seventeenth and eighteenth centuries) . Angamaly assembly constituency is part of Chalakudy (Lok Sabha constituency).
