Ankleshwar, (sometimes written Ankleshvar; Gujarati: ) is a city and a municipality in the Bharuch district of the state of Gujarat, India. The city is located ten kilometres from Bharuch. The town is known for its industrial township called GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation). Ankleshwar has an office of the ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited). Ankleshwar has over 5000 chemical plants, producing products such as pesticides, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and paints. As of 2001 India census, Ankleshwar had a population of 67,952. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. 13% of the population is under 6 years of age. Among the Hindus, ghanchis (oil traders) are an important caste, residing in the town for centuries . The city has a sizeable Muslim population.
