Bonaigarh, also locally known as Bonai, is a subdivision of Sundergarh district of the Indian state of Odisha. It is 162 KM east of district headquarters Sundargarh. It is a tehsil headquarter. This royal bounty place is surrounded by River Brahmani and verdant hills having a temple of Lord Shiva (Baneswar Temple) and a King's Palace. Bonaigarh Subdivision is divided into four tehsils or blocks. These includes :- 1.Bonaigarh 2.Koida 3.Lahunipara 4.Gurundia Apart from these tehsils , Bonaigarh is surrounded by many villages named - Jakeikala,Gogua,Kenaveta,Kuliposh,Mahuldia,Gopna etc..The main language spoken here is Odia.However ,people here speak Sundargadi & Bonaigadia - a language having the combination of Sundargadi and Deogarh dialect. During the British Raj, Bonaigarh was the capital of Bonai State, one of the princely states of the Chota Nagpur States, belonging to the Eastern States Agency.[1] Bonaigarh is located at 21.75N 84.97E.
