Banswada is a town and a mandal in the Nizamabad district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. Banswada is the fifth biggest town in the district of Nizamabad. The Manjeera River flows in 3km west of Banswada. The name is derived from the ancient name, Mahisawada ("the ancient Indian epic, The Mahabarata. Part of the story takes place in Mahishapuram"). Banswada is located at 182300N 775300E / 18.3833N 77.8833E / 18.3833; 77.8833. It has an average elevation of 371 meters (1220feet). Banswada is situated on Hyderabad-Bodhan State Highway No. 6. The town is 168km east of Karimnagar; 50km west of Degloor (Maharastra); 68km north of Basara; 50km north of Nizamabad; and 167km south of Hyderabad, the state capital of Andhra Pradesh. There is no train service to Banswada. The nearest railway stations are at Nizamabad, Bodhan and Kamareddy.
