Changanacherry is a municipal town in Kottayam district in the state of Kerala, India, located 18km south of Kottayam and 8km north of Thiruvalla on the Main Central road. As of the 2001 India census, Changanassery had a population of 51,960. Males constituted 48% of the population and females 52%. Changanassery has an average literacy rate of 86%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 86% and female literacy of 85%. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
