About Cheyyur

Cheyyur (Tamil: ), is a town situated 29 km from Madurantakam, Chengalpattu (Kanchipuram District) in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The town has been called various names in the past, including Jayamkonda Chola Nallur, Veerarajendra Nallur, Jayamkonda-Cholapuram, Seyyur, Seigaiyampathy, and Valavappuri. The area was originally made up of dense forests, which were used for animal hunting by the Chola kings. Today, Cheyyur is a small town surrounded by four sub-areas: North, East, South and West Cheyyur. It is a regional hub to many remote villages in the towns surrounding area and contains a Taluk Office (administrative offices), regional treasury centre along with banks and ATMs. The city of Cheyyur is accessible by public transport (bus) from Madurantagam. A weekly market called "Sandhai" is hosted in Cheyyur every Thursday. People living in and around Cheyyur village are mostly involved in various activities such as fishing and agriculture.
