The town population of 2,53,000(agglomeration) (2010 census)and surrounded area included more than 5 lakhs population like Vetapalem,Epurupalem,Chinnaganjam,Pandhillapalli,Karamchedu,Swarna,Vodarevu,Gundaipalem,Motupalli,etc. It used to be a Taluk of Guntur District, and later became part of then formed Prakasam District.
