About Diphu

Diphu (in Dimasa Kachari language it means Di-water and phu-white) is the headquarters of Karbi Anglong district in the state of Assam in India. Diphu is located at 2550N 9326E / 25.83N 93.43E / 25.83; 93.43. It has an average elevation of 186metres (610feet). It is about 270km by road and 213km by railways from Guwahati, State capital of Assam. As of 2001 India census, Diphu had a population of 52,062. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Diphu has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80% and, female literacy is 69%. In Diphu, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age. The important educational institutes are: Diphu is part of Autonomous District (Lok Sabha constituency).
