This town has a great modern history: there is Municipal Council since British government. The first train came here in year 1905 and it is still a major station on the Surat-Bhusawal railway line. In British government, Britain used this place as go-downs for their trade goods and later it became a main trade centre. It is famous for production and market of chillies.
