Darren Davidson is a British and Australian journalist. He is the media editor for The Australian. He is based at News Corps Sydney headquarters in Surry Hills.Davidson became media editor of The Australian in November 2015. There he has been noted by commentators for his pursuit of stories involving tech giants and pushing issues including the future of journalism and copyright protection into the spotlight.According to columnist, Mark Day: When the Goobook duopoly wanted to exempt itself from Australia’s copyright laws, a concerted pushback, led by this newspaper’s editor of Media, Darren Davidson, caused the government to abandon its plans to extend them a “safe harbour”. Davidson has also led the scrutiny on Facebook through a series of reports on its activities in Australia.In 2017, Davidson obtained confidential internal Facebook documents showing how the company could target ads at depressed children. The Sunday Times editor Michael Beach wrote: Davidson’s story prompted the Australian government’s children’s e-safety commissioner to seek assurances from Facebook that it accepted what it did was wrong.Davidson joined The Australian in 2011, and appears on Sky News and radio as a commentator. Prior to joining The Australian, Davidson was the editor of AdNews. Davidson redesigned the magazine, and launched an iPad app.Davidson was born and raised in the United Kingdom. He holds a BA Hons in History. After University, Davidson undertook a journalist apprenticeship with the National Council for the Training of Journalists.He began his career in London, writing for local newspapers, business magazines and national newspapers including The St Albans & Harpenden Review, Campaign, and The Daily Telegraph.
