Darren Matthews

Darren Kenneth Matthews (born 10 May 1968), better known by the ring name William Regal, is an English professional wrestling trainer, manager, and retired professional wrestler. He is currently signed to WWE, where he is the General Manager of the NXT and 205 Live brands also Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting. Matthews is well known for his time in World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he wrestled under the ring name Steven Regal. Having started his career in a rare surviving British wrestling carnival booth, he went on to wrestle for national-level promotions on the UK wrestling circuit, including wrestling for ITV. He then progressed to touring around the world in countries such as Germany and South Africa before being signed to WCW in 1993. In 2000, Matthews joined the World Wrestling Federation (later World Wrestling Entertainment/WWE), where he became on-screen commissioner. More recently, he has been General Manager of Raw, the 2008 King of the Ring, and the official match coordinator for NXT Redemption in 2011. He is highly respected amongst his peers and wrestling fans for his in-ring ability. He has achieved considerable championship success in professional wrestling, although he has never been a world champion; throughout his career, he has won several titles, including four in WCW and fifteen in WWE and is considered one of the most underrated wrestlers of all-time . He has overcome multiple drug problems as well as a major heart defect during his career.
