BIOGRAPHY

Sir Ian Murray McKellen professionally known as Ian McKellen made his debut as an actor in A Touch of Love (1969). It was in 1993 he gained wider recognition as an actor with the movie Six Degrees of Separation which gave him stardom. He has had a good career studded with a lot of awards to his credit. His maiden award was RTS Television Award for Best Performance for Walter which has since been followed by many more. The iconic films in McKellens career so far are A Touch of Love (1969), Priest of Love (1980), Six Degrees of Separation (1993), Richard III (1995), Gods and Monsters (1998), Apt Pupil (1998), The Da Vinci Code (2006), X-Men films, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies to name a few. McKellen son of Margery Lois and Denis Murray McKellen was born on 25 May 1939, in Burnley, Lancashire. He attended Bolton School and his acting career started at Bolton Little Theatre, of which he is now the patron. He was knighted in the 1991 New Year Honours for services to the performing arts and made a Companion of Honour for services to drama and to equality in the 2008 New Year Honours. In October 2014 he was awarded Freedom of the City of London.
