Joel Edgerton was born on the 23rd of June 1974 is an Australian actor and filmmaker. Edgerton is best known for his roles in films such as Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), Warrior (2011), The Thing (2011), Zero Dark Thirty (2012) and The Great Gatsby (2013). In 2014, Edgerton starred in the biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) as Ramesses II, the main antagonist, and in 2015 co-starred with Johnny Depp as corrupt FBI Agent John Connolly, in the biographical drama Black Mass (2015). In Australian media, he best known works are his role as Will McGill in The Secret Life of Us for which he won the AACTA Award for Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama in 2002 and for the film Animal Kingdom for which he won the AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 2010. In 2015, Edgerton's directorial debut, The Gift, a psychological thriller that Edgerton also wrote, co-produced, and co-starred in, was released. The Gift was met with acclaim by critics and audiences alike, and earned Edgerton a nomination for the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing – First-Time Feature Film.
