Mirza or Mirzā (ˈmɜːrzə or mɪərˈzɑː; Persian: میرزا) is a historical title of Persian origin, denoting the rank of a royal prince, high nobleman, or military commander. It is usually defined in English as a Prince.Today, Mirza is used as a name to identify patriarchal lineage to aristocrats of Persia, the Indian Subcontinent, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. Specifically, it was used as a title by and today signifies a patriarchal lineage to the imperial family, a nobleman, or a military commander of the various Persian Empires, Turkish Ottoman Empire, Shirvanshahs of Central Asia, Circassians of Eastern Europe, Mughals / Moguls or Muslim Rajputs of the Indian Subcontinent. It was also a title bestowed upon members of the highest aristocracies in Tatar states, such as the Khanates of Kazan and Astrakhan.
