Paul Castro (born March 12, 1975 Bronx, New York) is an American screenwriter. While a student at the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television he was a finalist for the Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmakers Award for directing and producing his original screenplay Healing, and landed a three picture screenwriting deal worth $1 million.An original screenplay of Castros was made into the film August Rush, for which he received a story credit with Nick Castle. The screenplay was credited to Castle and James V. Hart. The film was released November 21, 2007 by Warner Bros. The film is directed by Oscar-nominee Kirsten Sheridan, and stars Freddie Highmore, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Terrence Howard and Robin Williams.Paul Castro served as an expert crises counselor specializing in suicide prevention for seven years. He was also an officer in the United States Navy, twice recalled to active duty after 9/11, then returning to his career as a writer.
