Travis MacDonald

Travis MacDonald (born 1990) is a New Zealand born, Melbourne-based artist.MacDonald completed his formal training as an artist at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA). He completed his Bachelor of Fine Art in 2011, having specialised in Spatial Practice and Drawing. McDonalds practice aligns closely with his formal training, as his works are often executed in the mediums of painting or sculpture. The subjects of McDonalds works are derived from found photographs, which he marries with popular culture references through allusions to conspiracy theories, music, folk law and trophy motifs so that the personal and universal collide. Through asethetic devices such as a moderated colour-pallette, fragmented forms and exaggerated textures MacDonald achieves a dream-like quality in his work, which is informed by his ongoing interest in the tensions between reality, recollection and memorialization.
