Bhaag Milkha Bhaag narrates the journey of Milka Singh from an ordinary man to a world Champion, Olympian, and India’s most iconic athlete. The screenplay was written by Prasoon Joshi. The film was produced by Rajiv Tandon, Raghav Bahl, Maitreyee Dasgupta, Madhav Roy Kapur, Rachvin Narula, Shyam P.S, Navmeet Singh and P.S. Bharathi and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. This 2013 biographical sports drama film stars Farhan Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Meesha Shafi, Pawan Malhotra, and Art Malik. Sonam Kapoor charged only ₹11 as her acting fees for the movie. It is based on the autobiography of Milka Singh titled Race of My Life: An Autobiography which was co-authored by Sonia Sanwalka. Milka Singh gifted the shoes he wore during the Rome Olympics to Farhan Akhtar during the movie’s shoot. Clear cut editing by P.S. Bharathi and adept cinematography by Binod Pradhan makes it a watchable movie. It was released on 12 July 2013 and was distributed by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. The music was composed by Shankar- Ehsaan- Loy. The film was made on a budget of ₹30 crores and it collected ₹164 crores at the box office. The Censor Board has categorized the movie under U certification and occupies a screen time of 189 minutes. At the 2014 IIFA Awards it received 14 awards including: Best Story, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Dialogue, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, Best Sound Mixing, Best Background Score, Best Costume Design, Best Make-up, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Farhan Akhtar), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Divya Dutta), Best Picture and Best Director. At the 2014 Filmfare Awards, it received 2 awards including Best Production Design and Best Costume Design and at the 2014 National Film Awards, it received an award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Choreography.
