A Burlesque on Carmen is a 1915 Silent-language Comedy motion picture written by Prosper M Rim E and Charlie Chaplin. The movie is directed by Charlie Chaplin and produced by Jess Robbins and George K. Spoor under the banner of Essanay Studios. This is a parody of two Carmens, Bizet's opera and a movie (1915) starring Geraldine Farrar. Smugglers come ashore. Their leader sends the gypsy Carmen to lure Don Jose (called Darn Hosiery) away so they can get the contraband to town. There are grand swordfights, deaths, returns to life. Written by Ed Stephan. A burlesque on carmen stars Charles Chaplin in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Jack Henderson, Edna Purviance, Leo White, Ben Turpin, Peter Sellers and Lawrence A. Bowes. The music was composed by Hugo Riesenfeld. Cinematography was done by Roland Totheroh and editing by Charlie Chaplin. The film has a running time of 31-44 minutes. It was released on 18th December 1915. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by General Film Company.
