Aleksandr Nevskiy is a 1938 Russian-language Action Biography film written by Sergei Eisenstein and Pyotr Pavlenko. The movie is directed by Sergei Eisenstein and Dmitri Vasilyev. Aleksandr Nevskiy was produced under the production house Mosfilm. It is the 13th century, and Russia is overrun by foreign invaders. A Russian knyaz', or prince, Alexander Nevsky, rallies the people to form a ragtag army to drive back an invasion by the Teutonic knights. This is a true story based on the actual battle at a lake near Novgorod. Written by Gene Volovich. Aleksandr nevskiy stars Nikolay Cherkasov in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Nikolay Okhlopkov, Andrei Abrikosov, Nikolai Okhlopkov, Dmitriy Orlov, Vasili Novikov and Nikolai Arsky.
