Amaradeepam is a 1956 Tamil-language Drama film directed by T. Prakash Rao and produced by S. Krishnamoorthy, T. Govindarajan and C. V. Sridhar under the banner of Venus Pictures. An educated unemployed person Ashok (Sivaji Ganesan) falls in love with the daughter Aruna (Savitri) of a wealthy Industrialist. Aruna is taken hostage by her husband -to -be, Sukumar (M. N. Nambiar), and while Ashok trails them to save Aruna, he loses his memory in an accident. Ashok meets Roopa (Padmini) and they begin to like each other. Sometime later Aruna comes back and as Ashok fails to recognize Aruna things look complicated. The rest of the film deals with how Ashok struggles with his memory and how both Aruna and Roopa try to win him over. Amaradeepam stars Sivaji Ganesan, Saroja E.v., Shivaji Ganesan, Chittor V. Nagaiah, M.n. Nambiar, Padmini Ramachandran and K.a. Thangavelu. The screenplay is written by T. Prakash Rao. The music was composed by G. Ramanathan along with T. Chalapathi Rao. Cinematography was done by Kamal Ghosh and A. Vincent and editing by N. M. Sankar. The motion picture has a running time of 162 mins. It was released on 14th February 1956. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Venus Pictures.
