Basant is a 1960 Hindi-language Comedy Drama motion picture directed by Bibhuti Mitra and R. Selvam and produced by Pondu under the banner of Pandu Cine Arts. A runaway spoiled rich girl is helped by a man she meets on the road, but their path to love is strewn with numerous misunderstandings, false accusations, a sudden tragedy and the pursing footsteps of a persistent pickpocket. Basant stars Vijayakanth, Amala, V. K. Ramasamy, Vijayakumar, Nutan Samarth, Shammi Kapoor and Bazid Khan. The music was composed by Manoj Gyan. Cinematography was done by Dinesh Babu and editing by R. Devarajan. The motion picture has a running time of 128 minutes. It was released on 23rd November 1960. Basant was made on a budget of ₹50 lakh and at the box office it grossed only ₹48 lakh. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by Sri Devar Pictures.
