Basil is a 1998 English-language Drama Romance film written and directed by Radha Bharadwaj and produced by Radha Bharadwaj under the banner of Showcareer Limited Production. Basil is the story of a sheltered, naive young aristocrat who finds a friend, John Mannion and through him meets Julia Sherwin. Basil falls in love with Julia, but she is below his class, and if his father finds out, he will be disinherited and sent away, as his older brother, Ralph was, when he unwisely did the same. How can Basil keep his love and his father's respect? Written by A Thomas. Basil features Christian Slater in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Jared Leto, Claire Forlani, Derek Jacobi, David Ross, Crispin Bonham-carter and Stephanie Bagshaw. The movie is based on Basil by Wilkie Collins. The music was composed by Richard G Mitchell. Cinematography was done by David Johnson and editing by Craig Nisker.
