Bombay is a 1995 Tamil-language Drama Musical film written by Mani Ratnam and Umesh Sharma. The movie is directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by Jhamu Sughand, Mani Ratnam and S. Sriram under the banner of Aalayam Productions. The film tells the story of an inter-religious family in Bombay before and during the Bombay riots, which took place between December 1992 and January 1993 after the demolition of the Babri Masjid led to religious tensions between Hindu and Muslim communities. Bombay features Arvind Swamy in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Arvind Swami, Tinnu Anand, Akarsh Khurana, Nasser and Kitty. The music was composed by Ar Rahman along with A.r. Rahman. Cinematography was done by Rajiv Menon and editing by Suresh Urs. The motion picture has a running time of 130 minutes. It was released on 10th March 1995. The movie made a box office gross of ₹14 crore. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Aalayam Productions. At the 1996 South Filmfare Awards It won 4 awards including: Best Actress (Manisha Koirala), Best Film, Best Director and Best Music Director. At the 1996 National Film Awards It also won 2 awards including: Best Feature Film on National Integration and Best Editing.
