Chinatown is a 1974 English-language Drama Mystery movie written by Robert Towne and Roman Polanski. The movie is directed by Roman Polanski and produced by Robert Evans under the banner of Penthouse in collaboration with Long Road Productions and Robert Evans Company. A private detective hired to expose an adulterer finds himself caught up in a web of deceit, corruption, and murder. Chinatown features Jack Nicholson in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Faye Dunaway, John Hillerman, Perry Lopez, Burt Young, John Huston and Darrell Zwerling. The music was composed by Academy Award Oscar winner Jerry Goldsmith. Cinematography was done by John A. Alonzo and editing by Sam O'Steen. The motion picture has a running time of 131 minutes. It was released on 20th June 1974 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. Chinatown was made on a budget of $6 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $29 million. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Paramount Pictures.
