Devdas is a 2002 Hindi-language movie directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Bharat Shah and Red Chillies Entertainment under the banner of Mega Bollywood Pvt.Ltd in collaboration with Red Chillies Entertainment. After his wealthy family prohibits him from marrying the woman he is in love with, Devdas Mukherjee's life spirals further and further out of control as he takes up alcohol and a life of vice to numb the pain. Devdas features Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai and Jackie Shroff. The screenplay is written by Prakash Kapadia which is inspired from Devdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The music was composed by Ismail Darbar And Monty Sharma. Cinematography was done by Binod Pradhan and editing by Dilip Deo. The film has a running time of 185 minutes. It was released on 11th July 2002. Devdas was made on a budget of ₹44 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹41 crore. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Mega Bollywood Pvt.LTD.
