Dil Chahta Hai is a 2001 Hindi-language Comedy Drama film written by Kassim Jagmagia, Farhan Akhtar and Karan Kashyap. The movie is directed by Farhan Akhtar and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment. Dil Chahta Hai was based on Akhtar's diary detailing his trips to Mumbai and New York City, and a story by a friend of his, Kassim Jagmagia, who would ultimately become a creative associate at Excel Entertainment. Dil chahta hai stars Aamir Khan in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni, Dimple Kapadia and Aayub Khan. The music was composed by IIFA Award winner Ehsaan Noorani along with Loy Mendonsa, Shankar Mahadevan and Shankar Ehsaan Loy. Cinematography was done by Ravi K. Chandran and editing by A.
