Fences is a 2016 English-language Drama film written by August Wilson and directed by Denzel Washington and produced by Denzel Washington, Scott Rudin and Todd Black under the banner of Bron Creative in collaboration with Macro Media, Escape Artists and Scott Rudin Productions. A working-class African-American father tries to raise his family in the 1950s, while coming to terms with the events of his life. Fences stars Denzel Washington in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Viola Davis, Stephen Mckinley Henderson, Jovan Adepo, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson and Saniyya Sidney. The screenplay is written by August Wilson which is inspired from Fences by August Wilson. The music was composed by Marcelo Zarvos. Cinematography was done by Charlotte Bruus Christensen and editing by Hughes Winborne. The motion picture has a running time of 139 minutes. It was released on 25th December 2016 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. Fences was made on a budget of $24 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $64 million. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by Paramount Pictures. At the 2017 Oscar Awards It won an award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Viola Davis).
