Fullmetal Alchemist is a 2017 Japanese-language Action Adventure film written by Hiromu Arakawa and directed by Fumihiko Sori and produced by Yumihiko Yoshihara under the banner of Keyser/Lippman Productions in collaboration with Columbia Pictures Television, Columbia TriStar Television and Global Entertainment Productions GmbH & Co. Medien KG. The plot takes place at the beginning of the 20th century, in a reality where alchemy is real, extremely developed and respected. The plot features brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric who, after attempting the forbidden technique of human transmutation, suffer the consequences. Alphonse loses his entire body while Edward loses his left leg. Edward then sacrifices his right arm to save his brother's soul by attaching it to a metal suit of armor. Edward is then given mechanical prosthetics known as automail in place of his missing arm and leg. Upon acceptance into the State Alchemists, he is given the nickname Fullmetal Alchemist, all while searching with Alphonse for the legendary philosopher's stone, that will repair their bodies. Fullmetal alchemist stars Ryosuke Yamada in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Tsubasa Honda, Dean Fujioka, Ryuta Sato, Jun Kunimura, Fumiyo Kohinata and Yasuko Matsuyuki. The screenplay is written by Fumihiko Sori and Takeshi Miyamoto which is inspired from Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. The music was composed by Reiji Kitasato. Cinematography was done by Keiji Hashimoto and editing by Chieko Suzaki. The motion picture has a running time of 135 minutes. It was released on 1st December 2017. The movie made a box office gross of $8 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Warner Bros. Pictures.
