Funny Girl is a 1968 English-language Biography Comedy film directed by William Wyler and produced by Ray Stark under the banner of Rastar. It is loosely based on the life and career of Broadway and film star and comedienne Fanny Brice and her stormy relationship with entrepreneur and gambler Nicky Arnstein. Funny girl stars Barbra Streisand in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Omar Sharif, Kay Medford, Anne Francis, Walter Pidgeon, Lee Allen and Mae Questel. The screenplay is written by Isobel Lennart which is inspired from Funny Girl 1964 musical by Isobel Lennart Jule Styne Bob Merrill. The music was composed by Jule Styne along with Bob Merrill. Cinematography was done by Harry Stradling and editing by Robert Swink, Maury Winetrobe and William Sands. The movie has a running time of 149 minutes. It was released on 19th September 1968 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. Funny Girl was made on a budget of $14 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $52 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Columbia Pictures. At the 1969 Oscar Awards It won an award for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Katharine Hepburn).
