Gardens of Stone is a 1987 English-language Drama War film written by Nicholas Proffitt and Ronald Bass. The movie is directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by Francis Ford Coppola and Michael I. Levy under the banner of American Zoetrope. A sergeant must deal with his desires to save the lives of young soldiers being sent to Vietnam. Continuously denied the chance to teach the soldiers about his experiences, he settles for trying to help the son of an old army buddy. Gardens of stone stars James Caan in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Anjelica Huston, James Earl Jones, D. B. Sweeney, Dean Stockwell, Mary Stuart Masterson and D.b. Sweeney. The screenplay is written by Ronald Bass which is inspired from Gardens of Stone by Nicholas Proffitt. The music was composed by Carmine Coppola.
