Girls in Chains is a 1943 English-language Crime Drama motion picture written by Albert Beich and Edgar G. Ulmer. The movie is directed by Edgar G. Ulmer and produced by Leon Fromkess and Peter R. Van Duinen. When Ruth Martin is discharged from her teaching position because her sister is married to a notorious criminal (who is basically running the city), she accepts a job at a girls correctional facility. Her intent is to try and prepare the inmates for a better life once they are released. Ruth runs up against the supervisor (who is controlled by her brother-in-law) who is only interested in skimming money off the budget and his gang of matrons who only want to keep the girls in line doing laundry. Written by Ron Kerrigan. Girls in chains stars Arline Judge in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Roger Clark, Robin Raymond, Barbara Pepper, Dorothy Burgess, Clancy Cooper and Jack Randall. The music was composed by Leo Erdody. Cinematography was done by Ira H. Morgan and editing by Charles Henkel Jr. The film has a running time of 75 minutes. It was released on 17th May 1943. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by Producers Releasing Corporation.
