Jamaica Inn is a 1939 English-language Adventure Crime film written by Sidney Gilliat, Joan Harrison, Alma Reville and J. B. Priestley. The movie is directed by Alfred Hitchcock and produced by Erich Pommer and Charles Laughton under the banner of Mayflower Productions. Set in Cornwall where a young orphan, Mary, is sent to live with Aunt Patience and Uncle Joss who are the landlords of the Jamaica Inn. Mary soon realizes that her uncle's inn is the base of a gang of ship wreckers who lure ships to their doom on the rocky coast. The girl starts fearing for her life. Written by Claudio Sandrini. Jamaica inn stars Charles Laughton in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Maureen O'hara, Leslie Banks, Robert Newton, Horace Hodges, Hay Petrie and Frederick Piper. The motion picture is based on Jamaica Inn 1936 novel by Daphne du Maurier. The music was composed by Eric Fenby. Cinematography was done by Bernard Knowles and Harry Stradling and editing by Robert Hamer. The movie has a running time of 108 minutes. It was released on 20th July 1939. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Mayflower Productions.
