James and the Giant Peach is a 1996 English-language Animation Adventure film written by Roald Dahl, Karey Kirkpatrick, Jonathan Roberts and Steve Bloom. The movie is directed by Henry Selick and produced by Tim Burton and Denise Di Novi under the banner of Walt Disney Pictures in collaboration with Allied Filmmakers and Skellington Productions. An orphan, who lives with his two cruel aunts, befriends anthropomorphic bugs who live inside a giant peach, and they embark on a journey to New York City. James and the giant peach stars Paul Terry, Simon Callow, Richard Dreyfuss, Jane Leeves, Joanna Lumley, Miriam Margolyes and Michael Bell. The screenplay is written by Karey Kirkpatrick, Jonathan Roberts and Steve Bloom which is inspired from James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. The music was composed by Academy Award Oscar winner Randy Newman. Cinematography was done by Pete Kozachik and Hiro Narita and editing by Stan Webb. The movie has a running time of 79 minutes. It was released on 12th April 1996 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released. James and the Giant Peach was made on a budget of $38 million and at the box office it grossed only $28 million. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Buena Vista Pictures.
