Laskar Pelangi is a 2008 Indonesian-language Drama movie written by Salman Aristo, Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza. The movie is directed by Riri Riza and produced by Mira Lesmana. In the 1970s, a group of 10 students struggles with poverty and develop hopes for the future in Gantong Village on the farming and tin mining island of Belitung off the east coast of Sumatra. Laskar pelangi stars Cut Mini in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Ikranagara, Tora Sudiro, Slamet Rahardjo, Teuku Rifnu Wikana, Cut Mini Theo and Mathias Muchus. The motion picture is based on Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata. The music was composed by Sri Aksan Sjuman along with Titi Handayani Sjuman. Cinematography was done by Yadi Sugandi. The motion picture has a running time of 124 minutes. It was released on 25th September 2008 in Indonesian and Malay languages. Laskar Pelangi was made on a budget of $8 billion and at the box office it grossed only $16 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Miles Films.
