Last Exit to Brooklyn is a 1989 English-language Drama movie directed by Uli Edel and produced by Bernd Eichinger under the banner of Allied Filmmakers in collaboration with Bavaria Film and Cinecom Pictures. Taken from Hubert Selby, Jr.'s controversial novel set in early 1950s Brooklyn. During a bitter strike by workers against a local factory, a gallery of struggling characters are crushed by their squalid surroundings and selves: an unhappily married union strike leader discovers he is gay; a jaded prostitute falls in love with one of her clients, a naive young sailor; a union negotiator attempts to peacefully resolve the strike while desperately hiding the fact that he's a communist ; the family of a striking factory worker cannot cope with the fact that their teenage daughter is illegitimately pregnant. Written by Serdar Yegulalp. Last exit to brooklyn stars Stephen Lang in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Burt Young, Peter Dobson, Jerry Orbach, Stephen Baldwin and Jason Andrews. The screenplay is written by Desmond Nakano which is inspired from Last Exit to Brooklyn by Hubert Selby Jr. The music was composed by Mark Knopfler. Cinematography was done by Stefan Czapsky and editing by Peter Przygodda. The motion picture has a running time of 103 minutes. It was released on 12th October 1989. The motion picture made a box office gross of $1 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Neue Constantin Film.
