Melancholia is a 2011 English-language Drama Fantasy film written and directed by Lars Von Trier and produced by Meta Louise Foldager and Louise Vesth. Two sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with Earth. Melancholia stars Kirsten Dunst in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Charlotte Gainsbourg, Alexander Skarsg Rd, Brady Corbet, Cameron Spurr, Charlotte Rampling and Jesper Christensen. Cinematography was done by Manuel Alberto Claro and editing by Molly Malene Stensgaard. The motion picture has a running time of 135 minutes. It was released on 15th March 2012. Melancholia was made on a budget of $52 million and at the box office it grossed only $17 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Nordisk Film. At the 2011 European Film Awards It won an award for European Cinematographer.
