Mersal is a 2017 Tamil-language Action Drama motion picture written by Atlee Kumar, Vijayendra Prasad and Ramanagirivasan. The movie is directed by Atlee Kumar and produced by Mahendran, N. Ramasamy, Hema Rukmani and N. Murali under the banner of Thenandal Studio Limited. The story revolves around two brothers, who were separated at birth one is a magician avenging his parents deaths and medical crimes, and the other, a reputed doctor who charges meagre amounts from his patients. Mersal features S. J. Suryah in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Hareesh Peradi. The screenplay is written by V. Vijayendra Prasad, S. Ramana Girivasan and Atlee. The music was composed by Ar Rahman along with A. R. Rahman. Cinematography was done by G. K. At the 2018 South Filmfare Awards It won 2 awards including: Best Supporting Actress (Nithya Menen) and Best Music Director. At the 2018 It also won 5 awards including: Best Actor in a Negative Role (Surya S.J.), Best Director, Best Music Director, Best Lyricist and Best Male Playback Singer.
