Monkey King is a 2016 Mandarin-language Comedy Drama film written by Ran Ping and directed by Cheang Pou-soi and produced by Kiefer Liu under the banner of Filmko Entertainment. Wolfi invites his childhood friends, Viktor, Martin and Ralphs, whom he has not n in 20 years, to his property in Provence. His 45th birthday is to be celebrated together, with a butler and two young playmates by the pool. Viktor is already called Ficktor as a greeting in reference to the old days. He gets angry calls from his boss all the time because the PR text he is supposed to write is not good. So he can not dedicate himself to his heavily pregnant wife Sima. Martin is worried about money and sends his son over to pretend to be heart sick. His operation would cost a handsome sum, but without it the boy would have to die. In Ralph's marriage to the psychotherapist Ruth, there is a great crisis. Ruth openly attacks Wolfi for his lustful, vulgar language, but the men envy the host, who has so much coal and not a family that spoils his fun. Wolfi has planned hearty amusements, but also has an old bill for his friends. Monkey king stars Aaron Kwok in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Gong Li, Feng Shaofeng, Xiaoshenyang, Fei Xiang, Him Law and Kelly Chen. The movie is based on Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en. The music was composed by Christopher Young. Cinematography was done by Yang Tao and Cheung Man-po and editing by Angie Lam. The motion picture has a running time of 119 minutes. It was released on 13th October 2016. The Film was successful at box office. Monkey King was made on a budget of $60 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $193 million. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by Filmko Pictures.
