Out of Africa is a 1985 English-language Biography Drama film written by Karen Blixen, Judith Thurman, Errol Trzebinski and Kurt Luedtke. The movie is directed by Sydney Pollack and produced by Sydney Pollack and Kim Jorgensen under the banner of Mirage Enterprises. In 20th-century colonial Kenya, a Danish baroness/plantation owner has a passionate love affair with a free-spirited big-game hunter. Out of africa features Robert Redford in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Meryl Streep, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Michael Kitchen, Malick Bowens, Joseph Thiaka and Stephen Kinyanjui. The screenplay is written by Kurt Luedtke which is inspired from Out of Africa by Isak Dinesen Isak Dinesen: The Life of a Story Teller by Judith Thurman Silence Will Speak by Errol Trzebinski. The music was composed by John Barry. Cinematography was done by David Watkin and editing by Fredric Steinkamp, William Steinkamp, Pembroke Herring and Sheldon Kahn. Out of Africa was made on a budget of $28 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $227 million. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Universal Pictures.
