Pyaasa is a 1957 Hindi-language Drama Musical movie written by Abrar Alvi and directed by Guru Dutt and produced by Guru Dutt under the banner of Guru Dutt Films Pvt. Ltd. The film follows his encounters with the golden-hearted prostitute Gulabo and his former girlfriend Meena , how the former helps him to get his poetry published, the success of his works, and his romantic relationship with Gulabo. Pyaasa stars Guru Dutt in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Mala Sinha, Waheeda Rehman, Johnny Walker, Rehman Khan, Kumkum and Leela Mishra. The screenplay is written by Guru Dutt. The music was composed by Sachin Dev Burman along with S. D. Burman. Cinematography was done by V. K. Murthy and editing by Y. G. Chawhan. The motion picture has a running time of 153 minutes. It was released on 19th February 1957. Pyaasa was made on a budget of ₹2 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹47 lakh.
