Ruthless is a 1948 English-language Drama Film-Noir motion picture directed by Edgar G. Ulmer and produced by Arthur S. Lyons under the banner of Producing Artists. Horace Vendig shows himself to the world as a rich philanthropist. In fact, the history of his rise from his unhappy broken home shows this to be far from the case. After being taken in by richer neighbours he started to exhibit an obsessive and selfish urge to make and money, loving and leaving women at will to further this end. Ruthless stars Zachary Scott in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Louis Hayward, Diana Lynn, Sydney Greenstreet, Lucille Bremer, Martha Vickers and Dennis Hoey. The screenplay is written by Alvah Bessie, S.K. Lauren and Gordon Kahn which is inspired from the novel Prelude to Night by Dayton Stoddart. The music was composed by Werner Janssen. Cinematography was done by Bert Glennon and editing by Francis D. Lyon. The motion picture has a running time of 104 minutes. It was released on 27th October 1948. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Eagle-Lion Films.
