Smillas Sense of Snow is a 1997 English-language Crime Drama motion picture directed by Bille August and produced by Bernd Eichinger and Martin Moszkowicz under the banner of Bavaria Film in collaboration with Constantin Film, Det Danske Filminstitut, Greenland Film Production and Nordisk Film. Based on Peter Hoeg's bestseller, this film is set in snowy Copenhagen where a small boy is found dead after he fell off a roof. Smilla Jasperson, a close friend who lives in the same house begins to suspect murder because she knows that the boy was afraid of heights and would not have played on the roof. As she begins to investigate, she is pulled deeper and deeper into a conspiracy that could very well mean her death. Written by Harald Mayr. Smillas sense of snow features Julia Ormond in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Gabriel Byrne, Richard Harris, Robert Loggia, Vanessa Redgrave, Jens Jørgen Fleischer and Agga Olsen. The screenplay is written by Ann Biderman which is inspired from Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter H eg. The music was composed by Harry Gregson-williams along with Hans Zimmer. Cinematography was done by J rgen Persson and editing by Janus Billeskov Jansen. The movie has a running time of 121 minutes. It was released on 4th September 1997 in English and Greenlandic languages. Smillas Sense of Snow was made on a budget of $35 million and at the box office it grossed only $2 million. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by SF Film/Filmcompagniet.
