Soorma is a 2018 Hindi-language Biography Sport motion picture written by Shaad Ali, Suyash Trivedi and Siva Ananth. The movie is directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Chitrangda Singh, Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Deepak Singh under the banner of Sony Pictures Networks India in collaboration with C.S. Films. Soorma stars Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Taapsee Pannu, Angad Bedi, Danish Husain, Pitobash, Herry Tangiri and Vijay Raaz. The music was composed by IIFA Award winner Ehsaan Noorani along with Loy Mendonsa, Shankar Mahadevan and Shankar Ehsaan Loy. Cinematography was done by Jitan Harmeet Singh and editing by Manish More. The film has a running time of 131 minutes. It was released on 13th July 2018. Soorma was made on a budget of ₹31 crore and it was a hit at box office gross of ₹32 crore. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by Sony Pictures Releasing. This is an inspiring true story of the triumph of the human spirit, about a player who faced a near death experience when he was at his peak but emerged victorious by his sheer determination, hard work and unrelenting passion for the sport. Sandeep Singh, a penalty corner specialist in the Indian Hockey team from Shahbad, Haryana made headlines when he was hit in the spine by an accidental gunshot while travelling on a train to join the national team that was to fly to Germany for the World Cup in 2006. The injury left him paralyzed, with the medical community giving him a slim chance of ever walking again. However, not only did Sandeep recover from it but he also made a comeback and re-established himself as the best drag-flicker, going on to captain the Indian national hockey team in January 2009.
