Sophies Choice is a 1982 English-language Drama Romance film directed by Alan J. Pakula and produced by Alan J. Pakula, Keith Barish, William C. Gerrity and Martin Starger under the banner of ITC Entertainment in collaboration with Keith Barish Productions. Sophie is the survivor of Nazi concentration camps, who has found a reason to live in Nathan, a sparkling if unsteady American Jew obsessed with the Holocaust. They befriend Stingo, the movie's narrator, a young American writer new to New York City. But the happiness of Sophie and Nathan is endangered by her ghosts and his obsessions. Written by Reid Gagle. Sophies choice stars Meryl Streep in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Kevin Kline, Peter Macnicol, Rita Karin, Stephen D. Newman, Greta Turken and Josh Mostel. The screenplay is written by Alan J. Pakula which is inspired from Sophie's Choice by William Styron. The music was composed by Marvin Hamlisch. Cinematography was done by Nestor Almendros and editing by Evan Lottman. The motion picture has a running time of 151 minutes. It was released on 10th December 1982 in English,Polish and German languages. The Film was successful at box office. Sophies Choice was made on a budget of $9 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $30 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Universal Pictures. At the 1983 Oscar Awards It won an award for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Meryl Streep).
