Suruli is a 1979 Tamil-language Action Comedy motion picture written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced by S. Sashikanth and Chakravarthy Ramachandra under the banner of Y NOT Studios. A scientist invents a formula to harness energy from lightning. Another corrupt scientist wants to steal his invention and sell it to foreign countries. So he kidnaps the scientist alongwith his girlfriend. The scientist's twin brother, who is a CID officer, attempts to rescue his brother and save the world. Written by Soumitra. Suruli features Dhanush in the lead role along with Aishwarya Lekshmi, James Cosmo and Sanchana Natarajan in supporting roles. The music was composed by Santhosh Narayanan. Cinematography was done by Shreyaas Krishna and editing by Vivek Harshan. It was released on 31st December 1979. The film made a box office gross of ₹4 crore. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Emgeeyaar Pictures Ltd.
